Wish List Wednesday - October Wants

Wednesday, October 9, 2013

Counting down to Friday or Saturday somehow makes the week drag, but ever since I started Wish List Wednesdays, the weeks are flying! I can't believe this is already the third installment. This past week I have started to realize that October is zipping by before my very eyes, and so I have been in panic mode trying to pack in all of the fall/Halloween activities, goodies and snacks I possibly can before the Christmas rush begins. Can't wait to share some with you! For now, though, here are a few last things I want/NEED/have scooped up for these final few weeks of October.

Festive maternity shirts - I'll buy just about anything with a sugar skull on it, and it will be good even after Halloween! I'm planning to wear the Jack-o-Lantern one on Halloween itself to take Trent to a few houses for his first trick-or-treating experience. For some reason silly graphic tees somehow become acceptable while pregnant, so I'm just jumping on board.

Halloween manicure - As IF I ever have time to do my nails anymore...and don't even mention an actual nail salon or I may start crying right here. BUT, I used these Sally Hansen Salon Effects kits the last couple of Halloweens, and I loved them! They actually turned out surprisingly well and were super easy. They seem to have died out in popularity now with the at-home gel craze, but I am still planning to use some for the holidays. They have tons of solids, glitters and more subtle prints as well...planning on all black with the ghost print thrown in there somewhere.

Baby girl headband - Yes, I realize it is a year premature, but I am already dying to get my hands on this adorable headband from Sadie Sky Boutique for baby girl's first Halloween next year! It is SO chic and just PERFECT. I may have to go ahead and pick it up now after all. Along with everything else in her shop!! Check it out..she makes the CUTEST accessories, and most everything is interchangeable so you can mix and match! Adorable, seriously.

Crock pot - I know, I know. I already have a crock pot. Yes, Matt, I know that is what you are thinking right now. But just look at how cute this one is! EEEK! I hear that appliances are on the list of modern 4th anniversary gifts. Just sayin :)  I plan to make the crock pot its own little place on the counter soon, because it is going to be used ALL SEASON LONG. I just love all the yummy (and EASY) goodness that comes out of a crock pot during the cooler months.

Halloween burlap banner - This has been on my wish list for so long that I finally just made myself one, and now I am giving one away to YOU! Make sure and enter here!

Wreath - Okay, we already have a Halloween wreath, too, but I just can't stop thinking about this one. Good old Target does it again!

Coffee Cozy - If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably seen my beloved Halloween coffee cozy from the oh-so-talented Molly over at Jumping and Jelly Bean. Check out the coupon code to the right! I am 10000% obsessed with it and bring it in my purse everywhere I go, just in CASE the urge for a Starbucks hits. I literally can't drink coffee without this cozy anymore. It just makes everything feel so much more fun, festive and FALL-ish! I can't wait to order some in..every color...for every holiday. But it will be hard to retire the orange and black one this year...maybe I can find a double use for it. Wrist warmer/bracelet? YES!

Skull scarf - I fully realize I am like years behind the trend with this one, but I have been obsessed with the skull scarves ever since they hit the runway shelves of Target and for some unknown reason I STILL have not bought one for myself. I NEED it now though. 1) It will be perfect for Halloween (and the rest of the year) and 2) Another fourth anniversary theme? Linen and SILK. I think I see a trend here. In any case, I am going to finally take the plunge before it truly goes "out of style." I doubt I will be splurging on the $300 Alexander McQueen one, however.

Burlap pillow - I have always loved Halloween decor, but I get even more excited when I see things with "October 31" on them. While Halloween has always been a favorite, now October 31st means more than just "Halloween" with the celebration of our wedding anniversary and Trent's birthday. I missed out on the Zulily deal here, bummer, but I'm planning a DIY version!

I think I am starting to develop a love/hate/broke relationship with Wish List Wednesdays....all I want to do afterwards is shop shop SHOP! So far I have kept myself in check and out of Target, so all is well for now.

The house projects are all coming along, slowly but surely. I am dying to share so many things, but there are just a few finishing touches to add first. One thing I can share now is this awesome idea I ran across here on Pinterest. It is a free printable..my favorite!!! Within minutes I had it up in our guest room because it was just too good to put off. I don't know why I haven't ever thought of this! Every time we have guests, they ask for the wi-fi password. And every single time, we dig through every drawer looking for the "safe place" we last put it. We have taken pictures of the password on our phones, stored it in a note on our phones, etc, but somehow we can never find it when we need it. This is such a fun solution, and it will come in handy even just for the two of us. It is in a fairly small frame, about 3 x 5, so just the right size to be cute and noticeable without being too much. Note: This obviously isn't our real password...or is it?

Fox Jar Candle - Target        Frame - Ikea

Keep your chins up, friends...the week is half over!

Fruit and Flowers, for him

Tuesday, October 8, 2013

As many of you know, our fourth anniversary is coming up on Halloween, but we decided to celebrate early this past weekend since Halloween is becoming an increasingly busy day for our family. I always try to stick to the traditional anniversary "theme" gifts...even if it ends up being a huge reach...but this year was proving to be a little more difficult. Fruit and flowers is the theme for the fourth anniversary, and while that theme may be super easy (a little TOO easy) when buying for her, buying for him is a different story. So I decided to put together a little inspiration board for all those women who, like me, were thinking wtf do I get my husband this year??

Fruit

iHome (ya know...for Apple!)
Phone case (or new phone)
Trip to an apple orchard (if you don't live in North Texas like us, boo)
Fondue at home or a fondue restaurant
Cider (or champagne, wine, etc)

Flowers

New gardening gloves (if your husband has a green thumb...or thinks he does. hehe, Matt)
A pocket hose (honestly, trust me on this one)
A picnic at the Arboretum/Botanic Gardens
Rose gold watch/jewelry
Fleur de lis cufflinks

I ended up using a few of these for Matt..the iHome, a new phone case, cider, the pocket hose and a Sunday picnic at the Arboretum (even though that didn't end up happening....next weekend, I promise! Okay well at least some weekend this month. Or this year. Really).

I hope this helps some of you out there! Now I had better get cracking on ideas for his big 3-0...just six short days before my due date. I got this..

Weekend Recap

Monday, October 7, 2013

It was another one of those magical weekends around here this past weekend. We had about a zillion things to do, but somehow things still just felt relaxing and the weekend seemed longer than usual. I hope the trend continues! Because we were having a garage sale early Saturday morning, Trent spent the night at my parents' house Friday night. We figured it was the perfect opportunity to do an early anniversary celebration since we never have a chance to go out past 6:30 pm (or on our own) anymore. I worked worked worked like mad all day Friday so I would feel caught up and be able to enjoy date night, and it was 5:30 before I knew it. Hair half dried and nothing to wear with a dinner reservation at 6pm, but I had a make it work moment and we got out the door on time! a few minutes late.

After a quick dinner we headed to the theater and saw Runner Runner. I'm no movie critic, but I don't know...take it or leave it I guess. Shockingly Ben Affleck was much more appealing than Justin Timberlake in the film. Who woulda thought??

Then it was across the street to a late night "modern diner" for some dessert. A cool front was coming in, so we sat out on the patio and enjoyed the breeze. I stuffed my face with a waffle sundae in place of a cocktail and of course immediately regretted it. I did manage not to get anything on my white jeans, though, so that was a win. We looked at the clock thinking it must be after midnight, but no...it was 9:59 pm. OMG. We are SO old. I was exhausted driving home...and the line of cars wrapped around Whataburger getting their pre-going out food at 10pm made me feel even more exhausted...and even older.

The rest of the night was spent stressing over the storm and 20+ degree temperature drop that was forecast for the following morning. I mean...I have been absolutely dying for that weather, but 1) NOT on garage sale day, and 2) not for just one day. It didn't stick around, grr.

We woke up Saturday morning earlier than we even get up with Trent to start setting up for the sale, checking weather.com every five seconds. It was still hot in the early hours of the morning and hadn't rained overnight, so I had hope. But a few hours in with hardly any customers, and of course RIGHT at the moment Matt decided to leave for donuts and Starbucks, ten cars vans piled full of people pulled up, the temperature took a drastic dive and the storms clouds rolled in. Shit. Okay, maybe that was the exact moment I decided we needed donuts and Starbucks and insisted Matt go out and get them. Whatever.

We toughed it out a little while longer to get as much sold as we could and surprisingly got rid of most everything...possibly because we practically gave it away just to hurry things along. But we managed to make a bit of money and clear out a house full of junk which was the main goal. And then the bottom fell out of the sky, so we packed the rest of the rain-soaked goods into the truck and headed straight to Goodwill. My hands were frozen, and I was soaking wet...so yet again...no pictures. Except of the donuts, duh.

After thawing out and rinsing off, it was on to the next weekend project...half bath makeover! I have hated our pedestal sink from the day we moved in, and a few weeks ago we scored a killer deal on a new vanity that has been sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. Saturday was the day! My dad came over, and he and Matt took out the old sink and installed the new vanity. It was a bigger project than I realized because they had to cut the baseboards and do a few other things I wasn't expecting, but ultimately it got done and I absolutely LOVE it. As you can see, we also painted the bathroom a deep red. Now that the painting and vanity install are out of the way, I can really get to work on the smaller things - changing the light fixture, decorating, etc. Watch out for the big reveal later this week!

We had planned on going to the Arboretum Sunday morning before it got too crowded as the "flowers" part of the 4th anniversary "fruit and flowers" theme, but it was still super chilly early in the day, so we decided to stick around here, work on the house some more, hang out with Trent and do a few errands together. It felt like Trent had been gone for way longer than 36 hours. The day warmed up and turned out to be the prettiest day we have had so far this season! We had lunch on the patio to soak in the weather, and Trent loved it. He is so into being outside these days. Then it was on to the grocery store for a few things, and we saw the perfect opportunity to get some pictures of Trent in the pumpkins since we didn't make it out to the Arboretum. It also saved us $25 in tickets, so I bought $25 worth of extra crap. Go figure. When is the next garage sale??

And that was that. Trent went to bed, and we worked on some more house projects before realizing we were completely and totally worn out and heading to bed ourselves. And here we are again...Monday morning! Hope everyone had a great weekend and got to celebrate fall one way or another. Lots in store this week...stay tuned!
